UPDATE: The TNA One Night Only cards will still be PPV, but will only cost $15. Non-Bound For Glory Big 4 cards will be $35 and BFG will be $45.
Dixie Carter linked via Facebook a press release that Impact Wrestling/TNA is going to be changing the way they do pay-per-views.
Following Genesis next weekend, the company will take a month off before the Lockdown card in March. From there, they will do a series of "One Night Only" cards on the first Friday of each month.
Basically, it's the "In Your House" concept from 1990s WWF, except from what I can tell, the ONO cards will be PPV-caliber supercards broadcast for free on Spike TV. This raises the question of why you're running the taped PPV card on a Friday and not a Sunday other than to see if you could stick it to SmackDown's increasingly anemic ratings, but whatever.
Only TNA's Big Four cards will be on PPV now. So you will only pay for Bound for Glory, Slammiversary, Lockdown and... Genesis? Why not Final Resolution? It has a perfect name for a year-end card and could be a follow of the Starcade tradition.
I guess TNA figures Genesis could kick off the PPV year, leaving BFG as their year-end spectacular. And I suppose December is a crowded month already with UFC's year-end card and WWE TLC.
Overall, I like the move and it instantly makes me want to watch Impact Wrestling since it is now less of a financial burden to be a fan of them vs. being a fan of WWE. That said, it's a quality vs. quantity thing, so TNA better make freaking sure their quality actually makes fans question why they're shelling out $50 a month for WWE.
Then again, with WWE's plans for 'Mania being teased, that may not be too hard as long as this Brooke Hogan B.S. ends soon.
